We Tried 5 Nigerian Food Delivery Apps for a Week: Here’s The One That Stole Our Money

Hungry Lagosian? Your first instinct is to open an app. But which one actually delivers your food on time, hot, and without a hassle? We put Bolt Food, Glovo, Jumia Food, Chowdeck, and a popular Instagram vendor to the ultimate test. The results were shocking, and one app failed spectacularly.

Our Testing Methodology

We ordered the same type of meal (a common Nigerian dish) from similar restaurants in the same Surulere location at 7 PM on a weekday. We rated them on: Delivery Time, Packaging, Accuracy, Customer Service, and Value.

App #1: Bolt Food – The All-Rounder

Delivery Time: 42 minutes.
Verdict: Reliable and integrated with the familiar Bolt app. The driver was professional, and the food was warm. No surprises, good experience. Rating: 4/5

App #2: Glovo – The Hit-or-Miss

Delivery Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes.
Verdict: The app is sleek, but the execution was poor. The driver got lost twice, called incessantly, and the food was lukewarm. Rating: 2/5

App #3: Jumia Food – The Disappearing Act

Delivery Time: N/A. Order cancelled after 45 minutes because “no rider was available.”
Verdict: A frustrating experience that left us hungry and ordering elsewhere. Seems to be a common problem. Rating: 1/5

App #4: Chowdeck – The Surprise Winner

Delivery Time: 35 minutes.
Verdict: Lightning fast! The food was piping hot, perfectly packaged, and the driver was polite. The app is simple and efficient. An impeccable experience. Rating: 5/5

The Final Ranking

  • 1. Chowdeck (5/5)
  • 2. Bolt Food (4/5)
  • 3. Glovo (2/5)
  • 4. Jumia Food (1/5)

While your experience may vary by location, Chowdeck was the clear winner in our test. Jumia Food’s performance was unacceptable. Choose wisely!
